Besides the Student Union, there is another entity under public law at the University of St.Gallen: the non-tenured faculty. It consists of the academic personnel between graduation and professorship.

The non-tenured faculty of the University of St.Gallen is made up of the following members:

• assistant professors,
• permanent lecturers,
• lecturers and post-docs,
• assistants and members of the research staff of the University and the institutes with a Master’s degree or an academic diploma,
• professors emeritus.

The most important organs of the non-tenured faculty are

• General Assembly:
  The General Assembly is the supreme organ of the non-tenured faculty. It consists of all its members. The General Assembly elects the Chair and the other committee members. In addition, it elects the representatives of the non-tenured faculty in the University bodies and committees. Also, the General Assembly makes decisions concerning the policies to be pursued and changes to its statutes.
• Committee
  The Committee consists of six to ten members plus the Chair. The members come from all Schools of the University. Two members act as specific representatives of the assistants. The Chair and the Vice-Chair have to have a doctor’s degree. In particular, the functions of the Committee include the management and the representation of the interests of the non-tenured faculty. Additionally, the Committee sets up working groups that deal with individual issues or implement the decisions made by the General Assembly.

The term of office of the elected representatives of the non-tenured faculty is two years and starts on 1 February.
