Can I use the HSG library even if I am not a student at the University of St.Gallen? The HSG Library is open to all. Here you can find informations about registering and borrowing. Can I pick up or return a book from the HSG library in another library? Yes, courier service is available between some libraries. You can select the pick-up location in Metasearch when you place an order. There is a charge for this service. Returns can also be made at participating libraries. A list of participating libraries and the steps you need to take can be found at IDS courier. How do I borrow a document with the location “Speicherbibliothek” (storage room)? Documents with location "Speicherbibliothek" are not in the open stacks area and must be ordered . Please order the required media directly through Metasearch. All ordered books are delivered to the HSG Library at no charge by a courier service (Monday to Friday). Delivery is within 2-3 working days. You will receive a pick-up invitation by e-mail. Please note that there is no courier service on Saturday. More information about courier service Is it possible to return documents to the HSG library by mail? Yes. You can return media by mail (address: Universität St. Gallen, Bibliothek, Dufourstr. 50, 9000 St. Gallen). The valid date of return is the day the books actually arrive at the library. The user will be responsible for any overdue returns, damages or lost documents. Please check the borrowing regulations. Please note that, in case you are sending the books from abroad, you will have to tag the books as follows: Rücksendung Bibliotheksbücher, Warenwert = 5. If this is not done correctly, customs charges may result. Any such charges will be recouped from the user. How do I cancel a reservation / document order? Reservations / mail shipment orders for borrowed documents can be cleared from your user account. To cancel mail shipment orders and courier orders on documents that are not currently borrowed, contact the Library directly: email@example.com or +41 71 224 22 70. How long may I keep borrowed documents? All information about due dates can be found in the Borrowing regulations. Can borrowed documents be renewed online? No, this is no longer necessary. After the loan period of 14 days, the due date will automatically be extended by 14 days, as long as there are no other reservations on the document. Instructions for further steps to take, if you cannot find what you need in our Metasearch, can be found here: Inter-library loan. Do you have Wi-Fi? Can I do research with my own laptop in the library? Wi-Fi is available in the entire library. There are some limitations for external users. More information about Wi-Fi and using your own laptop can be found on our page Internet access. I would like to search the databases and electronic media of the University of St.Gallen Library from home. How does that work? This is only possible for students and employees of the University of St.Gallen via VPN client. External users and alumni can only use databases from computers in the Library. Before that keep yourself up to date with our information page about HSGswisscovery. How can I pay fees? You can pay fees at the circulation desk of the library or you can wait for the invoice. I have lost / damaged a borrowed document. What should I do now? Please notify the HSG library of the loss or damage as soon as possible (firstname.lastname@example.org). What do I need to do if my user account has been locked due to a 3rd warning? Your user account will be re-activated as soon as all borrowed documents are returned and all fees are paid. My library book is worn so much it is falling apart and/or a previous user has scribbled all over it. What should I do? Items damaged due to normal wear and tear do not have to be replaced by users. This includes folded pages, loose or missing pages, damaged spines etc. Please do not under any circumstances try to repair library books yourself. Inappropriate attempts can hinder or even render impossible adequate professional repair works. Report damages of this kind, before you borrow the book or, at the latest when you return the book to the circulation desk.
